“Reading the Weird” is an ongoing exploration of The Weird: A Compendium of Strange & Dark Stories conducted by Leah Thomas. The webcomic follows the journey of Mary and Ed through ever stranger landscapes and encounters, seemingly influenced by the stories in the anthology.
Going into the holidays, we’ve decided to give you the entire story thus far all in one post – episodes 1 through 7 – with Episode 8 posting on December 9. This is a great way to catch up or revisit this wonderful web comic. You can also read an Interview with Leah Thomas.
What’s in store going forward? Here’s what Thomas has to say: “Ed and Mary will meet with tribulations originally concocted by the likes of Franz Kafka, Robert Aickman, and Margaret Irwin, among others. The struggling friendship of the purple-haired book owner and the humanoid axolotl will be given further opportunity to flounder during the final chapters – but it will also be granted the chance to perhaps surface once more. There’s still some story to be told, here, and this exploration of all that’s weird will continue for a while longer.I hesitate to spoil the story, but suffice it to say that events may come to a head on a hill in a place known as [REDACTED]. I cannot thank you all enough for your readership; I hope you have enjoyed Ed and Mary’s travels so far. It’s been an absolute pleasure to present them to you.”
